Rosslyn Chapel in its Scottish Ecclesiastical and Historical
Context
A large number of popular
writers incorporate Rosslyn Chapel, Freemasonry, the
Sinclair family and the Knights Templar in their various
writings on this subject. In doing so they deal with Rosslyn
Chapel in isolation and in the process ascribe various
Masonic interpretations to it and the numerous carvings
which it contains.
This presentation intends to
place the chapel in its wider historical and ecclesiastical
context in an effort to determine the accuracy, or
otherwise, of the numerous claims for a Masonic and/or
Knights Templar connection.
Drawing on documents held in
the Grand Lodge of Scotland Museum and Library the author
will compare and contrast these claims with such documentary
evidence which is, for some unknown reason, not considered
by popular writers when advancing their own particular
hypotheses.
