Sir Walter Scott and Freemasonry (a Power Point presentation)

How does one assess the impact of Freemasonry on a person’s life and work? Although this lecture will outline what is known of Scott’s Masonic career the main focus is on an examination of the influence of Freemasonry on his work by examining the various Masonic references within his Waverley novels. Scott invented the historical novel and was a prolific producer of work in this genre. The Da Vinci Code is but yet another novel reproducing the genre created by Scott.

An examination of the references to Freemasonry in his work will discuss the use to which he put Craft in his novels. His contribution to the mythology of the Knights Templar and Freemasonry and the historical context in which this occurred will be discussed.
